Meet Steve Schock – A Legacy of Innovation in Boating
For Steve Schock, sailing isn’t just a passion—it’s in his blood. Growing up in a sailing family, he was immersed in the sport from an early age and naturally became involved in his family's business, W.D. Schock. He honed his skills as part of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s junior sailing program, which laid the foundation for his success as one of the top sailors at Newport Harbor High School.
After high school, Steve pursued his education at the University of South Florida, earning a degree in engineering. He went on to apply his technical expertise as a design engineer at Hunter Marine in Sarasota, Florida, where he contributed to innovative boat designs.
In the mid-'90s, Steve returned to Southern California to work as the in-house designer for W.D. Schock. His impact on the industry is undeniable—he played a key role in designing some of the company’s most successful models, including the Schock 35, the redesigned Santana 22, and the Harbor line, most notably the Harbor 20. Over the course of his career, Steve has designed more than 15 different types of boats, blending craftsmanship with performance to create vessels that stand the test of time.
In 2015, Steve and his wife Ruth took the helm of Schock Boats, continuing the family legacy by representing some of the most respected boat builders in the industry. Today, Schock Boats proudly offers Grady-White, and Jeanneau Power Boats. With a lifetime dedicated to sailing, design, and innovation, Steve Schock continues to shape the boating world—one great boat at a time.
